AfrEA WINS U.S. DEPARTMENT of STATE, BUREAU of DEMOCRACY GRANT AWARD

The African Evaluation Association (AfrEA) in 2018/19 submitted a funding proposal to the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) entitled Democratizing Learning and Evaluation: Supporting Evaluation Ecosystems and Opportunities for Contextualized Approaches.

AfrEA has been awarded this grant by the US DRL to implement the project over a 36 months period. AfrEA is most grateful to the US DRL for this award that will improve the work streams on Made in Africa Evaluation (MAE) approach that promotes Africa led and Africa rooted evaluations.

The project has two objectives:

  •  African Evaluation Capacity Development
  • Africa-rooted Evaluation and Knowledge for Development

To implement this AfrEA will partner with its national evaluation associations, research institutions and civil society in African countries where AfrEA has members to implement this project. Eight national associations will benefit directly from the project. The end products, approaches and tools identified and/or developed will be used to evaluate democracy and human rights projects in Africa. The first call of proposals for VOPEs to participate in the project was made early in the year and a second call will follow in the near future.

AfrEA will organize webinars on Made in Africa Evaluation (MAE) as part of the project to improve member understanding of the Made in Africa approach so that we are able to engage in this process meaningfully.

AfrEA SIGNS MOU WITH RESEAU FRANCOPHONE D’EVALUATION (RFE)

The Objectives of the partnership include;

  • Accommodate and display francophone context during all events organized in Africa.
  • Put in place an effective and lasting partnership in order to create synergies to promote and develop evaluation practices in Africa
  • Make it possible for all members of AfrEA to benefit from RFE’s experience without a language barrier.

Both AfrEA and RFE look forward to working together to promote evaluation in the African region.
